Two Facing Posts Shooting Drills

←Back to Shooting Drills

This page presents several variations of a drill for practising different types of shot.  They are based on having two posts facing one another with a queue of players behind each.  The first player either

  • Runs forward, takes a long overhead pass from their original queue and performs a shot.
  • Runs forward, around the player coming from the other direction and back towards their own post, where they receive the ball for a shot.

Forward Run with Long Veer

  1. The second player in each queue has the ball.
  2. The first player runs forward, past the player coming from the other direction and veers off to their side.
  3. They receive the ball from a long pass and turn to face the post as they’re catching it.
  4. They take a quick veer shot and join the opposite queue.

Forward Run with Running In Shot

  1. The second player in each queue has the ball.
  2. The first player runs forward, past the player coming from the other direction and receives the ball from a long overhead pass.
  3. Without slowing down, they take a running in shot and keep running after they’ve released the ball so they end up behind the post before slowing down.
  4. The player joins the opposite queue from where they started.
