1st Team Match Report – 21st October, EUKC 1 vs Ed City 2 vs Glasgow 1

Sunday 21st October saw EUKC 1 confront Ed City 2 and Glasgow 1 at Broughton High School. With an entirely new squad and some decent opposition, we knew that some tough matches were ahead…

EUKC 1 vs Ed City 2:
After the battle lines were drawn, game faces applied and a somewhat wavering ‘hands in’ (it turns out that picking two random animals is more complex than it sounds) EUKC 1 got down to business. Despite a slow start, the Firsts soon picked up the pace and developed a good lead. Half time found us clearly in control with 8 goals to City’s 2 and we aimed to go into the 2nd half upping the pace and doubling the goals already scored. Alas, it was not to be. EUKC 1 seemed to be possessed by sort of invisible Korf demon (all potential name suggestions welcome) which weakened our pace, focus and aggression. Refusing to panic however, we retained control of our lead and added an extra two goals to the score line, finishing with a convincing win of 10-5 at full time. Poppy must be commended for winning MVP after some impressive attacking play.

EUKC 1 vs Glasgow 1:
We already knew this would be the tougher of the two matches, coupled with our fatigue from the previous game. It was a frustrating match in which we failed to capitalise on attacking opportunities and fully exploit any weaknesses in the Glasgow side. Despite this, we scored two goals against a good side and restricted the effectiveness of their key players. Experience won out in the end however and full time saw a 9-2 win go to Glasgow. ‘Fitness’ will soon be every First teamer’s favourite word and we are confident that the next time we encounter Glasgow 1, the score line will be very, VERY different.
