12th Feb 2012: Ed Uni 1 v Ed City 2 v St Andrews 2

Ed Uni 1s played our first matches since the International Tournament on Sunday the 12th Feb. We headed up to St Andrews in a couple of car loads listening to some bangin’ tunes…well we did once Will L successfully got a girl (Sarah M) to jumpstart his car and Sam passed on the role of DJ.

First up was Ed City 2 who had just beaten St Andrews 2 and their success carried on into our match where they opened the scoring to make it 1-0. However, showing determination and an ability to control the game, Ed Uni fought back through no fewer than 7 goals from Captain Crombie, 2 from Will Lawton, 2 great shots from Poppy, 1 from Sarah McKeand, and 1 from Birthday Boy Elliot to finish the game 13-1.

Next up was St Andrews 2; a team made up almost completely of Korfball freshers who had been playing well against Ed City. The team was shaken up a bit and we started the game strong with perhaps the quickest goal the SKA League has ever seen? Maltby opened the scoring with a running in shot after some quick passing; a textbook operation. Almost immediately after our defence won the ball back from St Andrews, Maltby once again scored a beautiful running in shot. This set the tone for the rest of the match with us scoring on average, a goal every two minutes. After a few frantic passes, we played even better than against Ed City and were even getting some “crags” working… Although boring for the defence, a highlight of the match must be our 20 shot attack before the goal was finally scored; showing the importance of collecting and recycling the ball…and a reason for going to Wednesday morning shooting practice. The final score was 22-1, after 5 goals from Sarah M, 5 from Dom, 4 from Captain Crombie, 4 from Maltby, 2 from Elliot, 1 from Sham, and 1 from Sarah K.

It was a successful match day for the first team. With just 3 weeks left to Nationals, a lot of work still needs to be put in to ensure top form but spirits are high from the weekend’s performance.
